African House. The first part of the building was constructed by Ibn Ismail, an omani slave merchant, who used the edifice as a home during his stays in Zanzibar.
Towards the end of his life, he donated the house to the island’s Sultan, who used the building for giving hospitality to his guests from the British royal family. His son, Majid often used the house as a location for his secret encounters with the slave Aysha. T
he African house then became property of the English royal family and was turned into a English club.
Now, the African House has been converted into a tourist attraction, with rooms, restaurant, library, billiard table and a lovely see view bar.
Entering the building is an experience which brings you back to past. The best is to enjoy a cold drink at the terrace bar while watching the sunset.
